10 Items or Less is a comedy that pairs two perfect strangers whose chance meeting over the course of one day creates an unexpected bond, and reminds them both that life still has the opportunity to surprise.
Far from his hermetically sealed enclave of LA's Westside, a gregarious yet commitment-phobic film star is deposited at a small ethnic market in one of LA's inland empire melting pot communities where he hopes to research the next great role he's sure to turn down – only to discover, upon arrival, that his research target, the store's manager, is nowhere to be found. Just as quickly, he discovers that he has no idea how to get home, no means to do so, and must rely now upon the reluctant kindness of the one young Latina grocery checker who will agree to get him home – but only if he rides along with her through the rest of her day . . . a day, he discovers, that will change both of their lives.
"A lovely antidote to the bloated, self-important movies that tend to dominate the season … hard to resist." (A. O. Scott, The New York Times)
"This is a sharp little slice of whimsy with Freeman giving a funny, very-laid back and sometimes touching performance." (Richard Roeper, Ebert & Roeper)
"Worth discovering, and it can be discovered by each person who watches it, no matter how many reviews are read, no matter how many friends see it and recommend it. It's just that kind of movie." (Rory L. Aronsky, Film Threat)
"It's hard to convey how completely charming this off-the-cuff, 82-minute movie is. Morgan Freeman, who is 69 years old and has possibly never given a poor performance, is at full-glow here."(Kurt Loader, MTV)
